Lytle Earns All-Southern Conference Recognition Again

FLORENCE, S.C. – Jimmy Lytle carded an even-par 72 as Elon ended up in third place at the 2007 Southern Conference Men’s Golf Championship – its all-time best SoCon men’s golf finish since joining the league four years ago – Tuesday afternoon at the Country Club of South Carolina.
The Phoenix finished 10th at the Southern Conference tournament in 2004, eighth in 2005 and fourth in 2006. Of its 12 tournaments this season, Elon has recorded six finishes among the event’s top-three teams.
Lytle concluded the campaign with a Phoenix-leading 72.84 average and 10 top-20 finishes for 32 rounds in 12 tournaments on his way to earning All-Southern Conference accolades for the second consecutive season. Lytle (74-74-72–220) and teammate Justin Newton (71-74-75–220) tied for 13th place out of 50 golfers at the three-day, three-round, 54-hole tournament.
UNC Greensboro’s J.D. Bass (72-73-68–213) claimed medalist honors while top Elon finisher Jayson Judy (75-69-73–217) tied for fourth place. Phil Bartholomew (Tied-28th/77-74-74–225) and Scott Hockemeyer (Tied-37th/77-76-78–231) also competed for the Phoenix.
Chattanooga (293-280-291–864) captured the team title, followed in the standings by Georgia Southern (296-284-293–873), Elon (297-291-294–882), Wofford (295-293-297–885), UNC Greensboro (300-298-289–887), Western Carolina (296-299-299–894), College of Charleston (298-297-301–896), Davidson (307-300-295–902), Appalachian State (309-294-304–907) and Furman (307-299-303–909).
