Phoenix to Welcome Nine Total New Members in 2007

ELON, N.C. – Elon University men’s soccer head coach Darren Powell has announced the addition of four players to his 2007 recruiting class. Joining the Phoenix in the fall will be: James Rochow (Forest, Va./Jefferson Forest/Richmond Kickers), Stephen Dilger (Wake Forest, N.C./Wakefield/88 CASL Elite), Kevin Murray (Greensboro, N.C./Western Guilford/88 CASL Elite) and Greg Mader (Durham, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons/88 Triangle Futbol Club Navy). With the addition of these for players, Powell will welcome a total of nine freshmen for the 2007 season.
Name: James Rochow
Position: Midfielder/Forward
Hometown: Forest, Va.
High School: Jefferson Forest
Club: Richmond Kickers
Rochow, a 5-11, 165-pound midfielder/defender, was the District 4 Region Player of the Year as a junior at Jefferson Forest where he set the school’s single-season scoring record with 32 goals. He was a first team all-state selection as a junior as the squad reaced the state semi-finals. With the Richmond Kickers, Rochow helped the team reac the semi-finals of the State Cup. He also played three years with the Virginia 89 state ODP team.
James is the son of Richard and Joy Rochow.
Powell on Rochow, “James can play several positions in the midfield or up front. He has a good camlness in front of the goal. If he can maintain that composure in college, we expect he will contribute with both goals and assists.”
Name: Stephen Dilger
Position: Forward
Hometown: Wake Forest, N.C.
High School: Wakefield
Club: 88 CASL Elite
Dilger, a 6-0, 160-pound forward, has been a member of the USL Super Y-League ODP Southern Atlantic Divisional Select Team and was named Region 3 NCHSAA All-Region. He has also been an academic all-conference selection. Dilger helped lead his team to a NCYSA State Cup title in 2003, 2004 and 2007 as well as a 2006 US Club Soccer Champion’s Cup crown. He was also a member of the team that won the Region III U14 and the USYSA National U14 titles in 2003.
Stephen is the son of Steve and Nancy Dilger.
Powell on Dilger, “Stephen comes from the same club team as (early signee) Drew Gardener and has scored goals throughout his career with that program. He is a hard-working forward who gets into the penalty area well.”
Name: Kevin Murray
Position: Defender/Midfielder
Hometown: Greensboro, N.C.
High School: Western Guilford
Club: 88 CASL Elite
Murray, a 5-10, 160-pound defender/midfielder, has been an all-conference, all-region and second team all-state selection during his prep career. He was honored as the MVP of his Super Y-League program. Murray helped lead Western Guilford to the state semi-finals and was a member of the 88 CASL Elite team which claimed the 2007 NCYSA state title.
Kevin is the son of Mark and Joan Murray.
Powell on Murray, “Kevin is a left-sided deender who strikes the ball well. He is a good team player. We expect Kevin to develop into a solid force on our left side.”

Position: Defender
Hometown: Durham, N.C.
High School: Cardinal Gibbonns
Club: 88 Triangle Futbol Club Navy
Mader, a 5-10, 165-pound defender, has been a member of the 1989 North Carolina State ODP team for five years where he was the team captain for the squad’s trip to Italy in 2004. While at Cardinal Gibbons, Mader has been chosen as team captain and team MVP as well as conference player of the year, all-region and all-state. His ODP team claimed the 2007 ODP National title. For the past two seasons, Cardinal Gibbons reached the state title game, winning the crown in 2006.
Greg is the son of Charles and June Mader.
Powell on Mader, “Greg is a steady defender who has had a strong senior year. As a teammate of (early signee) Clint Irwin, he won the ODP National Championship in March. We feel Greg will develop as a steady defender as he makes the transition to the college game.”
