After a late season fall we are locked into the 4th spot, right behing uncg. good thing means we will have a first round home game against app. We beat them 4-0 in our season match up

It seems to be a trend the past few seasons that the guys start off strong and trail off at the end of the year. Granted the schedule was tough down the stretch, but the team who tied Wake Forest and UNC shouldn't have lost to Radford. Hopefully they can make some noise in the conference tourney.

Radford is NOT a slouch team. They aren't Wake or UNC, but they aren't Wofford either. They are an above .500 team. So they have some talent. Granted, I agree, we should NOT have lost to Radford, but what I am seeing is we think we lost to a team of Wofford's quality.
Overall, this isn't stumbling down the stretch. One more loss, and it is. You losing 2 matches does not mean you are stumbling. It can be bad luck. What happened last year was MORE than stumbling down the stretch.
On top of that, we should not have lost to UNCG 3-0. That was awful. UNCG is terrible this year...they should not have been the 3rd seed....App blew them out. I'm not happy about that loss, but I'm not going to call it stumbling down the stretch. One more loss, then sure, but not yet.

Through the App game they were 6-2-3, since then they are 1-4-1 with the lone win coming against Wofford. Not sure how that's not stumbling and I would be surprised if the team didn't feel the same way. The good thing is they have the tourney to try and right the ship. Whether they are 4th or 1st seed, they still have to go through UNCG, Furman or CofC again more than likely. They need to beat App first though. I'm pulling for the guys, just surprised at the struggles as of late.
Go Phoenix!

Throw out the Furman game. They went toe to toe with a DANG good team...they are what UNCG's been for all those years. A late goal cost them.
C of C...good team on their home field. Missed opportunity? Oh yes. Not a bad loss, though
UNC....Come on! This draw was HUGE! We didn't lose a game against the ACC (we didn't win either), but that aside, saying you didn't lose to an ACC team is a BIG thing. Soccer purists say a draw is good, too. Thats a hard sell in America, but the rest of the world, its a good thing. My old roommate is a big Euro Soccer guy and can go into greater detail about this than I can.
Winthrop....they were good, but I feel the way we were playing, we could have won that one. Much needed rain kept us from that.
Radford/UNCG....these, I'll give you. UNCG is NOWHERE NEAR the UNCG from last year and we got beat worse than last year. Radford still boggles my mind how that one got away from them. Radford isn't a horrible team, though, but we should have beaten them.
A lot of these losses are close ones and not the debacle from last year's stretch. Last year was agonizing and the guys didn't have their heads on straight at all. (Plus, there were some other issues that I won't discuss here.)
There is a big difference between now and last year. This isn't glorifying this as good, but there is a LARGE difference between those two years and I don't want us to get cynical again on this because we all know we've had enough of that from past experiences. I know for a fact that's not what is happening here (and stuff like that is a reason why I came back in the first place).

Those are all valid points. I'm not complaining about the team, I just felt like they were a team in the hunt for an at-large potentially and seemed to have tailed off lately. I'm just glad they are competitive and the fact that we have high expectations of them shows just how far the men's soccer program has come. Let's see what they do in the tourney. Would be nice to see them make a run.
Go Phoenix!

Yeah, I feel ya there. Though if they weren't at least receiving votes in the top 25 then, they'd have to win out just to crack it. That at-large bid in men's soccer, though not impossible, is hard to get. Women's soccer, its next to impossible because all the major conference teams that don't have men's soccer field women's.

A big reason for the late fall is due to an injury to Clint Collins. He's out for the year with a torn MCL. Really hurts us in the back. We looked really poor against UNCG, can't really explain it. We did have two good chances in 2nd half that we should have put home.

That explains part of it...I had no idea why he wasn't in there. That is a big injury.
We got to App offensively last matchup and I think we're going to have to pile up the score on Sunday.

Good game today. First half was pretty boring, but the second half the action picked up. Elon scored on a nice free kick from right outside the box in the second half. It looked like it would end a 1-0 win until App was given a PK. The PK was missed and the game was more or less over. Elon clearly outplayed the Mountaineers so it was good to get the win. Our goalie was the player of the game in my opinion. Let's go beat Furman!
