Lytle, Phoenix Claim Crowns at Wexford Intercollegiate

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – Led by individual medalist Jimmy Lytle, Elon rallied back from a four-shot deficit over the final 18 holes to claim an 890-891 win over Furman for the team title Tuesday afternoon at the third-annual Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate men’s golf tournament.
Lytle (69-69-72–210) pulled away from runner-up Oliver West (70-76-73–219) of Kennesaw State during the last two rounds. Lytle received plenty of support from his teammates as Jayson Judy (73-69-78–220) earned a share of third place and Justin Newton (77-77-74–228) tied for 25th in the 81-player field.
The Phoenix (298-292-300–890) trailed the Paladins (290-296-305–891) in the 15-team standings entering Tuesday’s final round of the two-day, three-round, 54-hole event, played on the 6,828-yard, par-72 Wexford Plantation course. Furman held the lead at the conclusion of each of Monday’s rounds.
Both Lytle’s 54-hole score and Elon’s team score were records for the young tournament. Kennesaw State (297-298-303–898) placed third while host Francis Marion (294-306-300–900) moved up two positions during the final round to finish in fourth place, a mere 10 strokes behind the Phoenix.
Presbyterian (298-301-303–902) finished fifth, followed by East Carolina (299-298-306–903), USC Aiken (307-296-303–906), Winthrop (304-296-307–907), Bowling Green State (311-308-294–913), Wofford (294-307-315–916), George Washington (304-298-318–920), Marshall (306-304-317–927), Davidson (317-309-323–949), Northern Illinois (310-314-325–949) and Oakland (320-310-319–949).
