While looking at soccer schedules I noticed that Elon is playing Duke at Elon this year. They'll also be playing at UNC and ODU in Greensboro from what I've seen. Charlotte is also on the schedule. The soccer team has landed some pretty big home games the last few years. I imagine the Duke game will be at Rhodes.
Anyone know what to expect from the team this fall?

Wake will also be visiting Elon this year. From what I hear, Coach Powell wants the game at Rudd instead of Rhodes. Better atmosphere when you get all the fans lined up around the pitch right on the action.
Team should be very strong next year. The big question will be who's going to supply the scoring. Goalie and backline should be very strong with Mason and Kinney anchoring again. We have some very crafty players in Wyatt, Collins, and Franks.
Not sure how much to expect from the incoming class, although we may be getting a transfer or two to help.
The schedule will be top notch and get us prepared for what should be a very tough Southern Conference. Could really use a striker with pace and a knack for the net. Should be an exciting season. Several of the players are playing this summer as well with different clubs which should only benefit the team for preseason in August.

Yeah, I can see why Coach Powell would want it at Rudd. We'd better get more stands, though. I don't think there has ever been a crowd over 1,000. Heck, if you market it right, you could get over 2,000 there.
The same applies for Duke.
The question is, do you want to crowd the place in a small venue, or attract more people just in a MUCH MUCH larger venue?

Thanks for the info guys. They were fairly solid defensively last year as well, so with any improvement in scoring that could bode well. I'm looking forward to following the team and see if they can manage to move up the conference standings. Not sure who Furman is bringing back, but they have been the measuring stick most of the time since we joined the SoCon.
I can't see Rudd being a good place for a lot of people to watch a game in its current setup. It would definitely be more intimate. If WFU is at Rudd, I bet the Duke game is the charity game at Rhodes.

Well another factor could be weather. If it rains, Rudd's pitch isn't all that great. When Wake played Elon at Rhodes in 2006, it rained pretty solidly, but that pitch held up real well.
For big games like that, you don't want to chance it. You don't want a match like that cancelled.

While it makes sense from a fans standpoint to have the games in Rhodes, it takes away the home field advantage that we would have. I think the team gets to practice on Rhodes once before a game, while they train on Rudd all year long.
I agree, not having enough stands at Rudd poses a problem for fans. Maybe they rent some portable ones for that game.
Conference should be solid with Charleston returning 9 starters, Furman always dangerous, and UNCG typically a front runner. Is it August yet???
