High Point University drops men's, women's tennis Staff Reports THURSDAY, JUN. 5, 2008 11:43 AM High Point University has suspended its men's and women's tennis programs.
"Our primary goal in the High Point University Athletic Department as well as the University as a whole is to provide all of our students with an extraordinary educational experience," said athletic director Craig Keilitz."While the decision to suspend one of our athletic programs was a very difficult one, it was a step that we felt necessary as we continue the critical evaluation of our entire athletic department."
"This decision is not meant to devalue or diminish the dedication, ability or effort of these student-athletes, coaches and alumni. All of them have made great contributions to High Point University athletics and to the history and legacy of the University."
Players will be eligible to transfer to other NCAA Division I schools and will be allowed to play immediately.

Well, so much for High Point having a lot of money. Given the growth of that school and its athletics, I don't care if it's water polo...if you have to drop two teams, you did something wrong. Sounds as if this is a slight confession that maybe High Point went a little in over their heads.

Trust me, that's not what it is...There's another issue at hand here.

I hope so...because if they've shelled out that much money into their athletic department and then drop 2 teams, that would seem like a warning sign.
I would imagine that issue has to be a lack of interest.

They only offer 12 sports now, since they dropped Tennis.
Hmmm ... could they be dropping to D2? They aren't D1 Eligible anymore unless they pick up two sports.

They've got 14 sports. Indoor and outdoor track for both men and women are a total of four.
