Okay, we're something like 80 days from the season, I already have the football itch. So what do you guys think will be the order of finish for the teams in the SoCon? Do you think Kirby will be able to lead the team to a top 4 finish, and does our OL have what it takes? Here's my view:
1. App St. 2. Wofford 3. Furman 4. El Cid 5. Elon 6. GSU 7. Chatt 8. WCU
Once again I think we'll be a middle of the pack team. Maybe we'll be able to pull out some of the close games this year, and maybe pull an upset and finish higher.

Seems like a reasonable projection. I might flip Wofford and Furman and El Cid and GSU.
I think you are right on though in mentioning the OL and Kirby as keys to the season.

I like your top 3, but after that it's anybody's guess. I'm really curious to see how Kirby does (assuming he gets the nod) as well as Newsome at RB. I keep hearing good things about him. Can't wait until 9/1.
Go Phoenix!

I think this team will surprise a lot of people. I also believe that we'll be middle of the pack, but high middle. As a team, these guys are a long way beyond where they were last year. Those who know say that Kirby possibly has better field presence than Wes and he is a better scrambler. He doesen't seem to be able to fire the ball as well as Wes, but that is where our allstar receivers should come in. To me, the x factor is leadership. Unfortunately, Kirby has no time as the head honcho in games or practice. Also, from what I've been told, don't count out Riddle as a presence this season.
I also feel that the OLine will come close to matching that of last year. The DLine and LB is not completely clear at this point either. Hopefully though, The cohesiveness of the team counts for something.

Thanks for the encouraging words about Kirby. I think for the team to progress the OL and DL will need to improve over last year. I hope the OL can go beyond your assessment of matching last year's but it will be difficult with perhaps two redshirt freshmen starters. The DL is very thin depthwise - a couple of the true freshmen will need to make an immediate impact for the DL to improve over last year.

Probably all of you are right. While I would love to win every game, I don't expect it to happen. What I care about most, is feeling like the game was worth watching...that the team cares and plays the best they can...and that we improve as season progresses. I want to feel like the team had fun and gave an effort they can be proud of, even when they lose. I want to see the team pull off some upsets so they can experience the excitement of hard work paying off. And, I want the fans to do their part...stand up, make noise and show lots of support throughout the game...regardless of the scoreboard.

Our first game sure as heck won't be a measuring stick for the season!!! Though I am excited to see us play a bowl school, I'm probably won't be as excited to see the score.
I also just want to see some improvement over last season. I have no doubt that with Lembo at the helm, we'll see it over the next couple of years.

App State and Wofford are both top 5 teams, with Furman the general #3 team, GSU will have a good offensive minded coach so who knows if they will show immediate turn around or not? Citadel has steadily gotten better over the past 2 or 3 seasons. I honestly dont see anyone beating App State again but after that I honestly think that Elon could beat any of the other teams. That doesnt mean I am saying that Elon is going to finish 2nd in the SOCON but I could see the team competing with all of the teams in the SOCON. Other than USF and App State I believe that all of the games are winable.

We're see some improvement but Coach Pete does not have the players respect at this time but maybe in year two, he'll make a recovery.

I think we will be middle of the pack...all I really care about is us beating crApp This will likely be a disappointing season for you then. Before the loss of Pope, Elon had a shot at a middle of the pack finish (4-6th), but now I believe they'll finish 7th. Citadel and UTC should be improved and GSU will likely go 4-3 in the SoCon.

I disagree, We sitll have a shot with our freshman QB. As long as the rest of the offence steps it up we should still finish middle pack. Its situations like these that make a team A TEAM

I agree...Philip Rivers made an impact as a freshman...and look at that Riley kid at Wake Forest last year..he was not even expected to be the starter...got thrown into it when there was an injury first game. At least our freshmen know what is expected of them. It is a bit unfortunate we are playing at USF for our first game...but it will also be quite exciting for the kids to play in that stadium.
