Got a close W against Wofford tonight in extras. Left a lot of men on base to leave us scapping in extras, but pulled out a win that was needed. I was listening on the radio and thought they blew the game having given up a homer in the top of the 10th, but Pritchard hit one with 2 outs and a 1-2 count in the bottom half to tie it up and then they won it in the 12th!
We need to win this series if not sweep it - Wofford just isnt that good and it would give us some space from GSU who is playing out of conference this weekend.

Looks like we're stuggling to find a line-up that can score runs. Hope coach can get it fixed by playoffs. We're fortunate to have talent, but bottom of SoCon in ERA and Avg. (best word to describe it is dysfunctional) just won't cut it at playoff time. Good luck the rest of weekend. Go Pheonix.

It is certainly a different game with the new bats - homeruns are down and Elon has relied on scoring in that way a lot over the last few years. I am not sure this team would have had the pop even with the old bats, but the new ones certainly arent helping in this case.

Sweep! Kinsella hit a walk off home run in the bottom of the 9th to finish up the game that got suspended from yesterday - the only run in the game. Then got the win 8-4 today.
Sitting atop the SoCon still - pulled away from Ga Southern who played out of conference. Everyone else is at least a couple games back - one of which is C of C who will be coming to Elon next weekend in what will be a big series.

Kinda of bothers me that our starting staff is 9-3, but Brebbia is 7-0. Great to have him in mid relief and closing at times, but are the pitch counts getting to high early on in games?

Not really. It's a lot of close games and late wins. Of the 22 wins, eight have been in the team's last at bat of the game.

Well, the starters aren't going far enough to be credited with wins......how do you account for it? The starters are 9-3 in 24 decisions. Seems fairly low compared to previous years. BUT we can't always have a Steven Hensley, Jimmy Reyes or Whit Bryant commanding first game in the weekend series. The boys overall are doing well without the presence of a solid bat in the middle of the lineup.....

Is it unusual to be this far into a season and not have a set batting order ?
Sometimes hitters have to settle/get comfortable in their roles without the concern of being moved. Many times players assume movment in the order or even out of the order as a sign "no-confidence" by the coaching staff.
Anyway. I hope things turn around with the sticks. It's kinda amazing to be leading in the conference without the ability to score consistently. It's nice to win but Wofford seemed much less talented and quite frankly shouldn't have given us that much of a problem, buttttt a Win is a Win and a SWEEP IS A SWEEP.

The starters have no control as to when the runs are scored All they can do as minimize the runs scored against them and give the team a chance to win. A comparison of this years Friday and Saturday's starters vs last years:
In ERA Starts In/Start Friday Webb 47.667 2.64 8 5.96 Reyes 98.667 4.56 15 6.58
Sat Ferrer 45.333 3.57 8 5.67 Britt 79.333 4.99 14 5.67
Reyes' 6.58 innnings per game was impressive. But over the first half of the year, 5.67 and 5.96 is not bad. Also reducing ERA by 1.65 (3.10 v 4.75) is good no matter what kind of bat you are swinging. Didn't look at run support but I think you can deduct it hasn't been anything near what it was last year. Need to find some offense.

Bats, I think the new bats could be making a difference in all college teams offenses. Don't they have a new type bat this year, or am I dreaming?

Not dreaming! According to the NCAA and half way through this season, the national batting ave is down (.301 v .279) ERA down (5.83 v 4.62). Right now Elon's BA sits at .253 overall. Have no idea what the BA is for Fri/Sat, but would not think it's better than the overall.

The new bats should affect everyone. We are struggling at the plate. We are dead last in team batting average with an alarming .253. The good news is that we are now third in runs scored behind GSU and C of C. I think that shows how good our coaches are in making due with what they've got.

Agreed. At the moment, we are struggling offensively and that's my point. The weekend starting pitchers are doing their job. Doesn't matter that Brebbia or any other middle releiver, for that matter, gets the win. The starters are giving us a chance. We don't have guys that are going to mow batters down with K's. If we score a run or two early in the game and don't kick it around, the starters records will reflect more accurately in the W-L column how they are pitching.

Agreed. AThe weekend starting pitchers are doing their job. . An ERA near 6 and opponents batting .315...... 57 hits in 44.2 innings with 16 of those being for extra bases from one weekend starter? ? That's what you call "doing their job?" With how this team has struggled offensively, that an equation for at least one weekend loss.
