Can those who go to practices, etc., this spring give us their thoughts and insights on this thread? Thanks.

I've seen a little. The offensive line looks good but it's hard to tell if it's the oline looking good or the young dline adjusting to a new coach and lagging behind. The wideouts seem to be dropping the ball less from what I've seen. Again I was only there for a short period of time but those are my observations so far.

A couple take-aways from the first scrimmage.
1) The offense is way ahead of where it was last year. Way ahead. Long sustained drives capped off with TDs is a great sign. Last year they considered a first down an accomplishment. O line is solid, and will be really strong when Toogood and others get back. Summers is going to be a beast. And the receivers are showing the promise we hoped. I think the days of the flip-flopping QB are over, and that's a very good thing.
2) DBs are solid, I think. D line way too early to tell.
3) I'm very optimistic. Yes, it's just one little scrimmage, but I get the sense that this offense is vastly better than last year. And the D will hold its own, I hope. I think you see optimism in Skrosky's comments, also.

CC had some good moments last year. He seemed to wake up somewhere around the Stony Brook and W&M games.....he had a couple really good games towards the end of the season. I know they finished 4-7, but 2 plays could have made that record 6-5.

After reading the Pendulum article as well, the one thing that still stands out is that - we STILL do not have a #1 QB.
We have to pick one and get some consistency with the first team unit.
This is a joke again.

This is a joke again. I think We have a lot of "Coach-speak" going on which is fine In this day and age We have to develop depth in the spring I do not think Thompson would transfer but He is a more than capable back up and has started. If We can get a 60% completion rate We could have a potent offense with our improved running game.

coaches letter on Spring Game : April 18, 2016 Dear Phoenix Football Fans, We are heading into our last week of spring practice, and that means our annual spring game is coming up. I hope to see as many fans as possible as we are scheduled to kick-off Saturday, April 23, at 6 p.m. The early forecast looks good with mostly sunny skies and high temperatures in the 70s, which should make for a great day. There will be a lot going on around campus Saturday and we hope to see a great crowd. Tailgating will be available on Bank of America Drive beginning at 3 p.m. with live music, food trucks, inflatables, and much more going on. Additionally, we are hosting a season ticket sales event taking place at 3 p.m. on the first floor of the Woods Center, so please visit our website for more information on that: www.elonphoenix.com/recruitingclass. All football alumni are invited to attend a gathering in the Presidents Box at Rhodes Stadium at 4 p.m. Our baseball team is playing CAA opponent Hofstra that evening as well with the first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m. at Latham Park. We are also hosting the CAA Tennis Championships and a track meet, which begins in the morning. Spring practice has gone well thus far. With this being the third spring with our players in the same system, there is a lot of familiarity with the schemes on each side of the ball. With that said, we still have more than half our roster participating in their first spring practice. This is a great time of year for those young players to develop a strong understanding of their assignments and techniques. We had our second scrimmage of the spring yesterday which consisted of about 90 plays. These scrimmages are vital to the development of the team. It is an opportunity for the players to perform under as close to game-like conditions as possible. Coaches are not standing behind with instruction, officials are on hand, and the players are put into numerous game situations which will help in their growth as a player. The team has made great progress in our first 11 practices and I am anxious to see that continue in our last week. We have put a big emphasis on the cohesion of the team over the last several months and I have seen examples of this taking place daily. We started a new tradition last year by having honorary coaches for our spring game. Last year I was so happy to have Jerry Tolley and Sam Story fill this role. I am so proud of the guys that will act as honorary coaches this year. David Harrison and Brandon Wiggins will spend the day with the team and be on the sideline for the game. Both of these alumni played instrumental roles in the success we had from 2006-2010. David was a two-time team captain as an offensive lineman. He was an all SoCon selection in 2008 and 2009, and was also selected as an All-American in 2009. David was recently married and is teaching and coaching football at West Mecklenburg High School. Brandon served as a team captain in 2010 and was selected as an all SoCon linebacker that same season. He has the third most tackles in the history of the program. Brandon has recently been named as the head coach at Smith High School in Greensboro. Both of these men have stayed connected to Elon University and I am looking forward to recognizing them at halftime of the game. Following our spring practice season, we will have our end of the season evaluation meetings with each of our players, and then the staff is back on the road recruiting during the month of May. The staff has done a great job again of getting some great prospects on our campus over the last three months. We have had two 2017 prospects make verbal commitments recently. These early commitments are evidence of the relationships we are building in our primary recruiting areas. We have also been working hard preparing for the summer. We have a good number of our players set for the summer so that we can have a productive June and July. We still have a few players to be placed in summer jobs. If you feel you can help in any way, please contact us. I hope to see a great turnout on the 23rd. It should be a great day and it is a good opportunity for a lot of players to play in front of a crowd for the first time in Rhodes Stadium. I am grateful for all the support the community has given our program. Regards, Rich Skrosky Head Football Coach GO PHOENIX!

Nellie, any sense of speed and athleticism? Better than a year ago? About the same?

Nellie, any sense of speed and athleticism? Better than a year ago? About the same? I am hoping to see a lot more athleticism on Saturday. Just looking at groups and ranking their strength to the team in relation to experience, depth, proven talent let's just try to get a handle on this. 1 Kickers all seniors both very good. 2 Offensive Line these guys are solid and deep. More size on the way too. 3 DB's Chris Blair anchors a quick group but they cannot lead the team in tackles 4 Linebackers best athletes on the team if they can cover side line to sideline 5 Wide receivers Tall and fast #88 Tre Marsh could be special 6 running backs talented not deep here incoming freshmen need to catch up quick 7 Tight Ends lost a lot of experience here but talent is here. 8 D-Line lot's of guys here maybe We can have a good rotation here. our weakest link seems like forever lot's of opportunities for young guys to step up and play. 9 Quarterbacks over-all improvement is expected no excuses O Line in place. good running backs return Lefty has the inside track they have to throw and hit open receivers at a higher level.
