What do you expect to see this weekend at W&M?
Been watching the W&M at Richmond replay. W&M are beatable. Richmond beat them and Richmond didn't even play very well in that game. This might be the break we need to get another W and to put some confidence back in our players!

What is Joey Baughman's injury? Is he out for the remainder of the season?

Need an OL coach and some imagination from our Offensive Coordinator and I guess the Defensive coordinator didn’t make the trip to Williamsburg. This is very hard to watch. Can’t tackle, catch, run and again not much effort.

I know I’m negative but that is the takeaway from this team.

Probably should take a COVID pause until next fall. I can tell by the responses that I must be the only person watching this game or at least the only one that cares enough to respond. I’m just really tired of this crap!

Agree seems the fire is just not there. Is it the coaches, the pressure of Covid, or something else. Who knows. We just seem to be outmatched

It’s disappointing. I know we are missing some players but we are stagnant and getting out-played, out-coached and most importantly. , showing a lack of effort.

Choosing to stay anonymous as someone inside alumni fieldhouse. Players are beat up, coaches aren’t taking responsibility. HC And AD are putting the blame of injured players on the athletic trainer, when infact all he does is treat the injuries presented in practice, scripted by who? The HC. A good man is losing his job because they need a scapegoat. When will they realize who is really at fault? Game today was rough and will most likely be put on the players.

can’t blame Covid because all the teams we’re playing are dealing with Covid also. We’ve got a lot of young players out there right now who are not used to the speed of the college game. They are also not used to losing, most scholarship players have come from winning high school programs, so this is frustrating and disappointing to them and a whole new experience. Got to coach them up and get some confidence back in them. Got to figure out how to get a another win with the players we have.

Can’t blame the trainer, he treats injuries which are a result of lack of strength training and conditioning. With that said and cleared up, the lack of effort can only be answered by one person. The offensive line is horrific but not because of size, we have more size than most FCS programs, but they are not being taught the proper techniques like the previous OL coach was teaching. I believe the same can be said for the defensive line. However, our offensive scheme is lacking sorely. This may be due in part to the lack in confidence in the QBs and the OL not to mention the lack of speed in our receivers. We did not get this way overnight and we won’t recover overnight, but some major changes should be in store for next fall.

I think at least some of our struggles currently comes from trying to find a new identity as a team. Going into a season you identify your strengths and play to them. Our strengths were probably our experienced Quarterback, defensive back talent, a deep running back room, and surprisingly our receiving corps (our receivers regularly beat man coverages, we just can't get the ball to them for many reasons). Losing our best QB by far and then the one we had backup playcalls for is just devastating to an offense's identity. Where are our strengths now? Arguably still at wide receiver, a deep running back room, and from my perspective some up-and-coming linebackers (we lost our best defensive back and best wide receiver to injury in the second game). I'm really liking LB Bryce Graves, a redshirt freshman, who had 15 tackles against Richmond and tons of key stops against W&M.
It seems we've been attempting to play to those strengths. I've seen a lot of screen passes, trying to get receivers on an island where they can make plays, but we aren't running the ball well enough to pull defenders in the box and out of the perimeter.
What I don't see is cohesiveness. I'm not sure why, but that's what stands out more than anything. Maybe we don't have enough strengths that stand out and give us reason to fight. I imagine this is how Villanova felt in 2017-2018 with all their crazy injuries. But they rebounded magnificently in the past two years because they saw their strengths and rallied around them. I'm confident we can do the same, but I'm worried it's not going to be fixed just by key players coming back. That's going to be one piece of the puzzle, but I think we need to do what Villanova did and rally when we can. When players make a great play, rally around them. When we get flashes of brilliance, put them on a poster and see them as reasons to keep fighting. Otherwise, we're going to have a long uphill climb back to believing in ourselves in the fall. The work doesn't start August 1. It always starts today.
