They have already gone the route of a young assistant FBS coach and it didn't really work out, which is why Lamb could be a good fit. I hear he has already been contacted as well.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) — A person familiar with the situation says Wake Forest coach Jim Grobe is resigning.
The person spoke to The Associated Press Monday on condition of anonymity because the school had yet to announce Grobe's decision. Wake Forest has scheduled a news conference for Monday afternoon.
COACHING: Sarkisian heading to USC
The 61-year-old Grobe was 77-82 in 13 years at Wake Forest and shares the program record for coaching victories with D.C. "Peahead" Walker.
He was the AP national coach of the year in 2006 after leading Wake Forest to its first Atlantic Coast Conference championship since 1970, a school-record 11 wins and a berth in the Orange Bowl.
The Demon Deacons have struggled recently and wrapped up their fifth consecutive losing season last weekend with a 23-21 defeat at Vanderbilt.

www.charlotteobserver.com/2013/12/02/4514321/ap-source-grobe-is-resigning-at.html#.Up0Doiex-SoGrobe officially resigned today WINSTON-SALEM — Wake Forest coach Jim Grobe has resigned after 13 seasons at the school. Grobe announced his decision this afternoon at a news conference. "I don't know what the future will hold for me," Grobe said. "Once you're a coach, you're always a coach and you want to keep coaching." "I feel like Ron (Wellman, the athletics director) will hire somebody good and it will be good for our guys." Grobe, 61, finishes with a career record of 110-115-1 in a combined 19 years at Wake Forest and Ohio. He was 77-82 with the Demon Deacons and shares the program record for coaching victories with D.C. "Peahead" Walker. The unquestioned highlight of Grobe's career came in 2006. He was named the AP national coach of the year after leading Wake Forest to its first Atlantic Coast Conference championship since 1970, winning a school-record 11 victories and earning a berth in the Orange Bowl. That was the second of his five bowl games with the school, and the first of three straight from 2006-08 — the only time the Demon Deacons have reached the postseason in three consecutive years. But it was tough to sustain that level of success at a school that has the smallest enrollment of any member of one of the six major BCS conferences. The Demon Deacons capped off their fifth straight losing season last weekend with a 23-21 defeat at Vanderbilt. Wake Forest ended the season 4-8, including five losses in a row. Wake Forest finished 113th or worse nationally in four of the five main offensive stat categories, and its offense effectively disappeared once receiver Michael Campanaro broke his collarbone in a loss at Syracuse on Nov. 2. The Demon Deacons managed just one touchdown in a span of 10 quarters coinciding with that injury, and those offensive struggles undercut a defense that held nine of 12 opponents to 24 or fewer points. In what turned out to be Grobe's final home game, Wake Forest gave No. 20 Duke a scare before losing 28-21. Grobe's successor faces a tough challenge because most of the key players from this year's team — including quarterback Tanner Price, running back Josh Harris, nose tackle Nikita Whitlock and Campanaro — were seniors.

Incidentally, DC "Peahead" Walker coached at Elon from 1927 until 1936 and started at Wake Forest in 1937. The Walker Terrace on the Alumni Fieldhouse at Rhodes Stadium is named after Zachary and DC Peahead Walker.

Sounds like he is being forced out. Could be he would want to continue to coach.

At 61 he's still reasonably young compared to a good number. I'm sure he will want to continue. About 5 years ago he was offered the Michigan job.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Wake bring Pete Lembo back to North Carolina.

What about a guy like Jeff Voris at Butler University? Butler plays in a non-scholarship conference (Pioneer Football League), but they've won it and been to the FCS playoffs in three of his eight years there. Obviously, recruiting with scholarships would be a lot different, but the schools are very similar academically and are both mid-sized private institutions playing against a mix of private and public schools.
I'm not lobbying, just curious what everyone thinks about a looking at a guy that's been a successful head coach at a similar school, albeit not an entirely similar FCS program.

I've got a good friend in athletics at Wake. The rumors there are that Lembo is a high favorite for Wake and Grobe is interested in Elon. I think both would be good moves.

First thing I said when I heard news that Grobe resigned was what a great fit he would be for Elon - his interview was vague regarding whether he wanted to stay in coaching, but if he does, I would love to see him come to Elon. Of course, I have no insight what Blank and Lambert are looking for, but he has been a successful head coach at a program with high academic standards. Also saw rumor that Lembo was on list of names for Wake - also could be a good fit - but then, his name seems to surface for a lot of openings - he may have his pick.

No, Lamb was not at Vandy. He was forced out of Furman. You're right. Got him confused with Bobby Johnson...Lamb followed him.

fwiw: Jim Grobe got paid a lot of money as He signed a long term 10 years I think for him to not be enticed on leaving for say anybody to the tune of $3+ million a yr. For several years. Pete Lembo could be a bargain for a while but Team Lembo would follow a similar hire as Grobe came to Wake from Ohio. Always thought Pete and Wake would be an awesome fit. Of course all those assistants We covet are now unavailable as who would wish a pay-cut!!!
