My biggest issue with our scheme is that it is not built for a mobile QB. If you watched Riddle, Wenning (Ball St.) or Quinn. There is not an emphasis on keeping the ball. We do not run any read-option plays to either pass or run. If you are going to run the spread these days, make sure you have a mobile QB. The spread is not a novelty anymore.
Our only committed QB does not look like a runner at all.
Ugh.

Watching Quinn's running touchdown against JMU (not the pass reception) off a fake handoff was bittersweet at best, considering what might have been this year (and even last year too). That run was nothing special and could have been done anytime and many times this season (and last year too). On the positive side, if one or two drives in each of the NC A&T, Delaware, Towson, W&M and Maine games ended in a TD instead of a FG attempt or INT we'd be 6-6 and feeling pretty good about things. Having a QB willing to run like Connor Christiansen waiting in the wings will only make things better next year. Cheer up folks, signing day is only a couple of months away! I agree that QB mobility for our style of offense could have made a real difference this year, especially given the porosity of our offensive line. However, to be a contender in this league, our OL has a long way to go. We really need some 6'4" - 6'6" 300 pounders with decent footwork. If I were Connor Christiansen, I wouldn't be counting my chickens just yet. He may be mobile but he looks frail and I wouldn't say his arm is any stronger or more accurate than Loch. Just because his recruiting video looks good doesn't mean he'll do well against a UR or Stony Brook defense where every single player including the line is faster than the fastest player on that recruiting video. Not to mention that, position for position, they are much bigger and stronger too. If Connor is smart he will bust his behind in a big way to get bigger, faster and better over the offseason. My bet is that Skrosky is looking hard right now to find a QB on par with Riddle and/or Wenning. It wouldn't surprise me if he got someone of three star caliber to decommit from another program with the promise of competing for a starting position as a freshman first year player. We can't use the "F" word anymore, right? Agree on the comment of the OL. The good news is that this year's version is pretty darn young. And they have the 375-pound redshirt that could/should be a game changer. I think Connor is, in fact, pretty smart. Not only that, but I know the coaching staff is intent on getting some bulk onto his frame. The truth is, though, he's about the same size as Drew Brees. The thing about highlight tapes is that they're incomplete. We see the best plays and not how they handle a game or an offense. We don't know the kids' heads or hearts. And we don't know the level of competition -- for anyone. We really have no idea how Connor or anyone else will perform against D1 level competition. I've seen plenty of strong, talented guys wilt under pressure. You never know until they experience the pressure. Finally, I don't think Skrosky is in a position to steal a top flight QB commit. 3-21 the last two years does not entice the kind of athlete you're thinking of to decommit from another program at this stage of the game. We have what we have. If our current roster or the new recruits aren't what we need, then... I do think next year's team will have a significantly different feel to it. But maybe that's just wishful thinking...

But maybe that's just wishful thinking... BWAHAHAHAHAH! hahahahah... haha. Christiansen is NO DREW BREES!!! I'll give everyone on this board $5 if we can keep from comparing every short skinny white QB to Drew Brees for one year! Look, I like Connor. I think if he can work very hard, he could be the 4th, maybe even the 3rd best QB we've had in the last 10 years. I think he has leadership qualities. He is athletic, but the same way a gymnast or a point guard is athletic. My fear is that one good pop from a big defensive end from the blind side will knock him out. With a very good OL I even think Elon could be in the top 5 in our conference with Connor as QB. Maybe in the top 3 or 4 with a very good defense. But, he'll need a substantial step up to compete for a conference championship or even a playoff berth for that matter. My fear, ASSUMING he is the starter next season, is that he'll be hurt within the first 3 conference games. I just don't feel we will have an OL to protect him well enough for him to be successful.

I said he's the same size as Drew Brees. That's it. Period. Nothing else.

And yes the size is an issue. With all QBs here and coming here, with the notable exception of Loughery, which takes us back a ways in this thread.
This position is a massive question mark. Extremely young and woefully inexperienced. As Skrosky has said many times, this offense is completely dependent upon the QB. And many here have commented on the necessary running ability of the QB, which also seems to be lacking for the most part.
Time will tell.

When I make a birdie on the 18th hole in a round of golf, that one thing, regardless of the 18 hole score, is what really makes me want to come back and play again the next week. Hopefully, ending with a positive will encourage the team to work hard in the off season to come back and prove something next year. more like holing out from a fairway bunker for an 8!!!! 2 shots OB and you pressed for the whole nassau. good thought on where i should spend my time now. Morningstar for OC?
