I would completely welcome Frank Haith…a coach who has spent his entire HC career in D1 with a lifetime record well over 100 games over .500. That would be sweet to welcome back and alumnus (don’t really care about the NCAA infractions with Mizzou at the moment). What about the infractions at Miami?

I would welcome infractions if it meant our team actually won something.

This is a school issue. We just won 10 games and coach Schrage is now at Duke. That tells you that he can for sure coach if the best program in the country wants him. Elon doesn’t really care about being good at any sports and it shows. We’re the only CAA school with literally no success really in any sport at all. We care about study abroad and other programs and that’s fine. But we have to adjust our expectations because the bottom line is that our basketball job is a bottom 3 job in the CAA. You don’t have the resources to consistently succeed! It comes a time where we have to stop saying man this coach is bad and this coach is bad. Time to look in the mirror and address the true problem which is just the schools culture. Athletics is not the focal point of the school. Frats, Academics, the arts, study abroad amongst other things are the Eon staples, sports just isn’t. Fine, Then keep the current investment and move back to the Big South or the Patriot. Being a laughing stock is neither good for the school or athletics. What's been happening for the past 2 decades is just pitiful.

If Elon decides to not go with Frank Haith(still my favorite option), I would recommend they look at a head coach who has exceeded at a lower D2/3 level rather than go the up-and-coming assistant route. One name caught my eye: Josh Merkel from Randolph Macon. He's had a ton of success at R-M, including winning the D3 championship this past year. He's relatively young and has D-1 assistant coaching experience at EKU and a grad assistant under Beilein at WVU. Why take a gamble on an assistant, when you can go out and get someone who can clearly coach like Merkel? Plus, any D-1 program is going to have a significantly higher budget than a D-3 school so that shouldn't be an issue for him. There are 3 primary issues with regard to a successful program. Facilities, which we now have. Recruiting, which I would say Schrage did fairly well given our history. Coaching and Player Development, which I would say were fair to poor over the past 2 years. A D2/D3 hire may be able to coach, but without recruiting, we'll still not have a successful program.

Forget Frank Haith. I went to school with him at Western Alamance and I would be OK with it but let’s face it - it’s not going to happen -No Chance….. I vote we make Coach Jonathan Holmes the interim head coach. Give him a season to see what he can do. What do we have to lose. Maybe by doing this we minimize the transfers. Quite honestly I am stunned 2 or 3 didn’t enter the portal today. Maybe we retain Graham and Burford and Mackintosh. The guy did a great job at William & Mary. He is young and relates well with the players. Give him a chance. Maybe he was just as frustrated as we all are. Maybe he has ideas to turn things around. Just saying…. I would not be disappointed if that happened and would actually welcome it. I wouldn't be against this with the "interim" provision. Give him a 1 year contract. Pay him Schrage's salary for that year. If he keeps Graham & Burford beyond next year and McIntosh for next year, plus advances the program, give him a multi year contract with a COMPETITIVE salary.

Hoopdirt reports that Elon has retained a search firm (Parker). So maybe this will get done by May.

Holmes was largely expected to be the next coach at W&M when Tony Shaver retired and then they unexpectedly (and inexplicably) fired Shaver.

I’m anti-Holmes. It’s Triscani 2.0. Our remaining players aren’t good enough to justify hiring an in-house assistant. Plus even if he was hired, there’s no guarantee they are staying.

We should move down to D2 or maybe D3 and be satisfied at being mediocre in all sports. Pay accordingly after firing Blank and Book and focus on academics and I for one would stop supporting the school after doing so for the last 56 years. What a waste of time the Phoenix Club is. On another note , have you noticed the apathy and lack of support this site generates except when we lose a coach and everyone waits to see what "bonehead" move Blank will make now.

So I heard a rumor. Billy Taylor, assistant at Iowa. Former head coach at Leigh and Ball State. I am totally in board with him.
