Right now we literally have 7 players committed to be on our team for next season. Butler, Watson, Junkin, Noord, Michael, Sherry and walk on Clark. We have 6 scholarships open. I think that’s a solid base, but we seriously need a couple of superstars to commit for Elon Basketball to be interesting next season. Much less relevant or prominent.
I’m really looking forward to seeing how the team rounds out. I’m mildly worried at this juncture.

It would be nice to see at least 1 player pop up on Verbal Commits soon. I was unaware until recently that players have until May 1 to enter the portal. I guess a lot of things will start happening after the 1st.

To be a top ranked School of Communications, there is relatively little of no communications from our athletics department. Very poorly run arm of the university. I can’t help but think that if Jonathan Holmes had been elevated to head coach, and derservingly so, things would be much different as to which and how many players would have left. I think that he did most of the coaching and certainly much of the recruiting. Apparently all of these players in the last 3 years committed to the coach and not to the school.

I don’t think committing to a coach and not the school is unusual. I completely get it from a players perspective too. Not sure Holmes was the answer but interested to see where he ends up.
Can’t help but feel anxious about not making any additions from the portal or even class of 22 for high schoolers. Taylor’s hires seem unusual too by hiring 2 D2 head coaches. I get it if you want one, from an X&O/player development perspective, but seems like it would make more sense to reserve the other two AC slots for assistants with recruiting connections either in NC or from other comparable programs. Guess we’ll just have to (continue to) wait and see….

I heard he will be retaining someone from the previous staff. I don't know who, but Holmes is still listed in the University directory.

I'm starting to get very concerned that we have landed NO portal players. When Schrage came, he made a statement, early on, with the Sheffield transfer. Ndugba, Butler, Watson and Junkin were all quality transfers. The pickins have got to be getting slim.

Say what you like about his coaching style, Pete was, and is, a master communicator. He is intelligent and articulate. Back then as it is today, text or email him a question about his team, or anything else for that matter, and he will absolutely reply within 24 hours. Most of the time within 24 minutes. He will give you a straight answer, whether the answer is I don't know, I can't answer that question at this time, or a solid succinct truthful answer. If he wasn't such a great coach, he'd make a great AD somewhere. When he was at Elon, you always knew what was happening with his team.

There are a ton of players still in the portal and it's likely there will be another bump as the May 1 deadline to enter the portal and be able to transfer without sitting approaches quickly. I'm also getting a little anxious about the lack of news about recruiting, but I don't think it's panic time yet. Retaining JGB will be huge if he can stay healthy. That, to me, is more valuable than bringing in an outside transfer.

So, when is Book going to wise up and dump the problem (Blank) and bring back Ward or someone who has a clue about hiring and paying and retaining coaches.

It has been over 2 weeks since Coach Taylor was hired. There has been essentially no news since then about assistants and/or recruits/transfers. So today Elon Basketball twitter has a post wanting people to put a deposit down for season tickets and includes a twitter link for the coach that hasn't had a post since August 2021. Are we really this bad at this?
