Our Alumni are young, that where we fall short against other universities.

I totally get that our alums are young. Does not change the fact that we have a long way to go. A long way.
I'm a fan, former letterman and a donor. I care, trust me.
The fact is that this move was a bad one. Regardless of the dumpster fire that was the SoCon. The myth that our alums are going to suddenly become fans and donate to athletics because we play in the Northeast is a train wreck.

Ok. I'll be optimistic.
Elon's facilities can hold their own. They are nothing to be ashamed of. The important thing is creating a home-field advantage with stands filled with vocal fans.
Skrosky was a critical part of a staff that maximized Ball State's potential. I think he will do that here. It'll take a year or two to become competitive.
And then you'll be glad they're in the CAA.

Compete with what stuff? A long overdue $27M stadium renovation? Rhodes is every bit as nice as half the CAA stadiums. One school, with some of the deepest pockets in the CAA, making upgrades to an historic stadium is not cause for alarm. I'm glad they are doing it and I'm glad we're in a conference with a school keeping pace. If Maine and New Hampshire can compete with this, so can Elon. If and when the convocation center gets built, expect a heftier price tag than $27M. Go Phoenix!

Zable is ancient and looks now, for the most part, as it has for 8 decades. We added lights for night games a few years back but that's the only real upgrade. Northeastern had a terrible football facility and Villanova's current football stadium isn't much but they seem to do okay.
Elon is a great addition to the CAA and, if you make it up for the game this season, I think you'll be relieved to find hospitable fans and a great gameday experience. I guarantee you'll be glad you brought your kids because they'll have fun and you won't have to be concerned about profanity or rudeness.

We have competed, can compete and will continue to compete both in sports facilities and otherwise. Rhodes Stadium is as nice as you'll find anywhere in the FCS. Is it the biggest? No, but why should it be? We only occasionally fill it now. But it is certainly as NICE as any in the CAA. Take a look around Elon's campus. Is there any area that was in need that isn't being addressed? The convocation center has been behind the housing and student life projects since 2010. It won't happen over night, but it will happen. Keep your panties on straight and take one more long pull off your pacifier and be patient. It will happen. It wasn't all that long ago that we were playing at a run down high school stadium.

My point is - that we do not have the resources other schools have for the most part. The support for the athletic dept is stretched very, very thin.
The convocation center should be 5,000 at the max. Look for us to replace the grass at the stadium with turf before the convocation center is built.

So what the school has just undergone a $250 million dollar not peso physical facilities projected thanks to all our contributions. Go and watch Leo Lambert's 2014 address video made last week. The place looks awesome and most have gone non athletic edifices. ALL of the athletic facilities have been served so I will not make a list. We are still small and We can compete and win in the CAA. But it takes support and a mind set from the student & Alums to show up early and bring your friends. It's a new world ,embrace it!

In regards to your note about expansion on campus. It has not been done with all contributions. We have $159 Million in bond debt! Based on the last public information - our debt jumped from $109 Million in '12 to $159 Million in '13. This is disturbing. It is basically the same amount as out endowment. We have had to grow the enrollment and living on campus to pay the bills.
Take it how you want...but at the end of the day we are not in the fiscal shape everyone thinks we are.

$250M of improvements for $50M in bond debt? Not bad!

I have driven into your campus once several years ago.
First, it's beautiful. I thought your football stadium was very impressive and you will see that it is one of the finest in the CAA.
I'm expecting you will be looking at a new arena though for basketball in the future. 1,500 is a bit small.

sitting bull, it may be small but it does create one of the best mid major atmospheres when its rocking. Students almost on the court. I can remember some great games their in the past years.

Thanks SB. Most of us are proud of what Elon has become and is becoming. I feel our campus is 2nd to none with regard to architecture, grounds and progressive, (small "p"), strategies. I never understood the value of the Elon philosophy, which, more or less, is the student is the first, second and third priority, until I went to grad school. Elon has ranked high in several categories over the last few years in several categories. We have been in the top 2 or 3 in the nation in studies abroad, engaged learning, campus appearance, MBA program, etc., etc. However, the category that most applies to the "Out Of Our League" discussion is this one: www.thetimesnews.com/news/top-news/no-1-best-run-elon-gets-high-marks-in-annual-princeton-review-1.354528"Elon earned high marks in the annual Princeton Review of “The Best 379 Colleges,” ranking No. 1 on the list of best run colleges. No other North Carolina schools cracked the top 20 in that category." We may not be William & Mary or University of Richmond yet, with regard to athletics, but I'm confident that the administration will integrate us very effectively but prudently into the CAA.
