Just an update in previous comments, I will have to step lightly as to what I know. As to our higher debt, Elon has recently built many resident halls. This was done with bonds and debt. They have the rev stream coming in from room and board to pay off. This figure personally doesn't worry me too much. As to our CAA facilities it will come. As in the past elon has always done it right. There are current projects that are first on the list. It will come in due time and it will be built to Elon Standards

More Elon accolades from the BTN:
ELON — Elon University has three No. 1 rankings as well as top marks for academic programs, teaching and affordability in U.S. News & World Report’s 2015 ranking, which comes out today.
“America’s Best Colleges” ranks Elon as No. 1 among 126 master’s-level universities in the Southern region. The criteria are peer assessment, average freshman retention rate, 2013 graduation rate, percentage of classes with fewer than 20 students, percentage of classes with 50 or more students, student-faculty ratio, SAT and ACT scores in the 25th to 75th percentile, freshmen in the top 25 percent of their high school classes, acceptance rate and average alumni giving rate.
No. 2 is Rollins College of Florida, and No. 3 is Samford University of Alabama.
“The U.S. News rankings are a good measure of the success Elon has achieved in providing students with the experiences and global perspectives they will need to make a difference in our world,” Elon President Leo M. Lambert said in a news release. “We are especially gratified that leaders in higher education across the country give Elon top marks for our high-impact academic programs.”
Other North Carolina schools in the category include Appalachian State University at No. 9 and UNC Wilmington at No. 16. Davidson College is ranked No. 11 among National Liberal Arts Colleges, while the National Universities category includes Duke at No. 8, Wake Forest at No. 27 and UNC-Chapel Hill at No. 30.
Elon also is ranked:
? No. 1 for its “Strong Commitment to Undergraduate Teaching”;
? No. 1 as an “Up-and-Comer” university; and
? Among the top colleges and universities under “Great Schools, Great Prices.”
Elon also is recognized nationally for excellence in seven categories of key academic experiences — more than any other U.S. university, according to a release from Elon:
? Study abroad;
? Internships;
? Service learning;
? Undergraduate research;
? Learning communities;
? First-year experiences; and
? Senior capstone.
Among other schools receiving program recognition, Stanford and Butler universities are cited for excellence in five categories, with Carleton College, Northeastern University, the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor and Wagner College cited in four categories.
U.S. News bases its rankings on a survey of higher education leaders across the country. More than 1,500 four-year schools are compared. U.S. News uses the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education to produce categories of rankings.

There is a lot to be proud of at Elon. Perhaps the football team will add to that list.

Not sure what you mean by quality students? Explain. The schools on that list are considered top schools from an academic perspective. It shows that due to our lack of funds, we are not attracting academically talented underprivileged students.

Actually the real reason is our endowment. We dont have the funds to offer the scholarships that other schools can. We are making great strides in this hand have a large percentage increase over the past few years as other school decrease

The link explains the Elon Academy, Which seeks out talented underprivileged students. Click on the link & read it for an explanation.
I'm sure you are an alumnus that really loves Elon and is passionate about the school getting better. I can understand that. But, it comes off like you hate the school and believe the direction the school is going is taking us right down the toilet. We have what we have right now. I may be the only one, but from the evidence available, I think Elon is doing a superlative job hanging with the Furmans, Richmonds and other moderate sized private institutions. Is our endowment or our overall athletic program what we want? Of course not. But if you look at where we were 20 years ago, I'd say our leadership has done a fairly decent job.

Elon is catching up, not falling behind. You have to consider where all these schools were 20 years ago when reviewing any published list. Will Elon reach the level of a Georgetown or Wake Forest or Williams in our lifetime? Probably not, but Elon is now on lists with those schools and that alone says a lot. The reality is there are a lot of these best of lists out there and you can always find some that aren't favorable for almost any school. The key is the outlook and rankings is a lot better across the board and that's a reflection of how Elon is perceived by its peers. Go Phoenix!

I knew these responses would be coming.
First off, I love Elon. It has given me my best friends and a wonderful education. I have supported Elon since the day I graduated. I have donated religiously. We have made amazing strides in the last 30 years. It is a far better place than when I left.
That being said, Elon is a PR machine. We are world-class at producing info that gets us great press. However, there are some glaring things that are not discussed. I choose to point some of them out because we need to have some perspective on things.
One of those areas is our move to the CAA. I have no problem with the move overall. However, I have serious doubts that we can be competitive in the long term due to our money issues. The fact is we don't have the money to invest in our programs that other places do. Our coaches and players have done amazing things on shoestring budgets. All of us on this board are in the small minority of people that care about athletics. Kids do not grow up Elon fans. A majority of students do not care about our sports. That goes for most of my alum friends as well. I drives me nuts when I hear of friends who live in the Carolina's buying season tickets to ACC schools and the SEC. These factors do not help us. As I have said before, the cost of the move is something that is going to be a big pill to swallow and the assumption that we will have fantastic alumni turnout just because we are playing in Northern cities is going to be rough.
Believe me, my support will never waiver. However, I choose to be pragmatic about everything.
This is a great forum and I love that we actually have other people that care and follow things as closely as I do. I don't have a problem with spirited discussion. I'm glad we have a place to do it at.

I think everyone on here is a passionate Elon supporter...why else would you be wasting your time reading these posts every day That said, I think these are great conversations we are having, so please keep it up! I think we will always struggle to fill seats - I remember when I was a student everyone wanted to hang out at home and watch "their college football teams" on TV every Saturday instead of going to support Elon. It's the nature of going to a FCS/mid major/call it whatever you want school. I also have seen how success on the field attracts fans - look at Alumni gym the past couple of seasons, or the year we played app state when we were both 6-0 in conference, if i'm not mistaken, that was our largest crowd ever at Rhodes. I think what Skrosky is doing to reach out to the community (attending college coffees to address students, etc.) will help, but ultimately success on he field will be what drives attendance. Attendance aside, Skrosky is just hands down a better and more personable leader than Swepson was. I have full confidence in his ability to return us to the top half of our league and compete for playoff spots - just might take a couple years. FC4Life - you mentioned we are on a shoestring budget...do you know what our athletics budget is, compared to other CAA schools? In my opinion we have some of the nicest facilities in our conference.

I would be interested in knowing this also.. The move to the CAA is a big pill to swallow... but there is no backing out at this point. Only time will tell....

Speaking of large crowds at Rhodes, I think the next two games have the potential to take the #3 spot. If the weather cooperates on Saturday I wouldn't be surprised to see over 11K. The next weekend being parents weekend and a local school with a huge fan base visiting could be even bigger. Go Phoenix!

I know back in 2013 when Elon was a member of the SoCon, I was told by a very credible source within the athletic department, that Elon's overall athletic budget was one of the lowest in the SoCon.
