I'm still miffed over the Swepson hiring when Lembo et. al. had done such a great job of advancing the program. But, even the Athletic Department knows now that was a mistake. I sincerely feel they got it right this time. So, I'm going to support the team, the new coaching staff and my school and watch the program build again.

Dam right, Whoa! I concur! I remember standing on the wall at Burlington Memorial Stadium, as a Kappa Sig pledge singing our version of the school song. Mum-ma mum-ma mum-ma... Some of you will know what that means. and that is a good thing nothing like it!!! Elon is all about the people. Getting to know the "Millennial" Alums,Students and Athletes you clearly see sharp individuals.Only thing is there is a disconnect or entitlement that this has always been there. These folks just need to see how it's done.

I beg to differ. There has been a lot of conversation about how we are outclassed because of a lack of money, alumni etc. It always seems that just when we need someone to step up VOILA! someone does. MANY, MANY THANKS TO DWIGHT AND MARTHA SCHAR!!! Please read: ELON, N.C. – Elon parents Dwight and Martha Schar have made the largest single gift in Elon University history, pledging $12 million to name two new buildings planned for the Elon campus. The historic gift was announced Dec. 4 by Board of Trustees Chairman William N.P. Herbert, M.D., and President Leo M. Lambert. Dwight Schar is a successful business leader. He and his wife, Martha, are philanthropists who have a long history of generous support of education, athletics and health, as well as of charities meeting the fundamental needs of children and families. The Schars will provide funds to construct a two-story, 45,000-square-foot building for the School of Communications. The facility, a cornerstone of Elon's recently announced plans to create a new quad for the School of Communications, will be connected to the existing McEwen Building. The Schars will also provide a lead gift for construction of Elon's convocation center, a building that is among the goals of the university's strategic plan, the Elon Commitment. Here's the remainder of the article: elonphoenix.com/news/2014/12/3/ATH_1203142624.aspxI guess the naysayers will have to go find ANOTHER reason as to why Elon will never be able to compete in the CAA...

I'd much rather see the gift (a great one) go to endowing scholarships and operations for athletics than to a convocation center that will sit empty most of the year. Until we sell out games for 10 years in a row. I see no reason to build a new arena.

I see a convocation center as being bigger than athletics. There are a number of things you can do: 1) Convocation can include more people 2) You can get speakers that you sell tickets to for revenue generation 3) You can start hosting events 4) You can start hosting concerts 5) You can, technically, go back to what we used to do and support the local athletics by supporting local tournaments, high school athletics championships and whatnot.
Sure, maybe it sits empty or maybe something new ramps up attendance in the short run like many other venues has. And sure App and Western have larger arenas, but they also use them for more than athletics and do alot of 3 and 4 above.
